I value the life of my unborn child above all else, but I also value the condition of my vehicle I've worked so hard to maintain. I figured I'd give it a shot and see what happens with the safety inspection.I installed this seat saver in a 2003 Infiniti QX4 using the LATCH system with a Graco Snugride 32. We have leather seats in the vehicle. My husband was able to get a very tight fit with the LATCH system and we have less than 1" of movement. I then took the installation to the local police station to have it inspected. He said "We normally recommend against this type of thing, but I have no problem with this installation. The reason is that #1 there is little to no movement and #2 both the top and the bottom are made of a non-skid surface." He said in the past that a lot of seat savers were hard, slippery plastic on top and that was not safe... I have almost no complaints about these, they do their job. My only gripe is one that I have seen mentioned in other reviews here, and that is that the back section does not come up high enough....nowhere near as high as most carseats. As a result (depending on the carseat you use) there could be some marks left on the back of your seats. As for the rest of my review, these seat savers do a great job. They are made of a semi hard rubber material and no matter what the base of your carseat is like, it will not damage or dent the bottom of your vehicle's seat surface. Many of the other brands are just fabric and foam and I feel like some carseats would press right through when anchored down tightly. Might as well use an old towel if that's the direction you are thinking about going in. An added benefit is these tend to catch a lot of dropped snacks and cereal and will contain anything spilled on them... Despite installing the seat properly on top of the the protector pad (putting my knee in the carseat and tugging the LATCH straps very tightly), the carseat still slid around a LOT.We ended up removing the protector and reinstalling the carseat the same way (knee in seat, tugging hard), and the carseat didn't budge a bit. Our car has fabric, not leather seats, but the seats are contoured. I think because of the thickness of the pad, it doesn't conform to the shape of the seat, but becomes an additional surface, which can lead to a carseat sliding too much. We ended up getting something else, much cheaper, for the back of the seat, rather than something underneath the carseat, and that worked great. I think using a towel could work fine, underneath the carseat, for some protection, without sliding issues. |
